During Margate town wide yard sale Day while searching for furnishings for our newly constructed bluestone patio in front of our cottage near the beach.
I came upon a rather large collection of pinback buttons. I knew nothing about these and as they are mostly of the modern era 1960-1990.
My interest was in the few I noticed were film related that advertised the releases of films to video. I don't see these type items often as they were
available only through large video stores back in the VHS era. I wanted them for my own film collection. There were two large potato chip tins full of buttons.
Having no time to look through the massive group of buttons, as I was already engrossed in our search to furnish our patio,
I asked how much the pins were. The owner said make an offer. We agreed on a price and I took the tins home.
Here is what I have found out. The collection was formed by a dairy delivery or milkman that had a route in Atlantic City, New Jersey. from the 1960's thru the 1980's Most of there buttons were collected locally along that route. He delivered to all of the Casinos in Atlantic City and several businesses as well as the Atlantic city Convention Center.
The majority of the buttons are local to Atlantic City and the nucleus of the collection is Casino related. The Casino items are from the period
prior to the Casinos in NJ until about 1988. It makes a rather interesting History of the casinos in Atlantic City. Other buttons relate to local business,
local events and some political buttons both National and local. There are also many miscellaneous buttons and several that I do not know what they represent.
I will do my best to identify. . Delivery Truck drivers were required to have a license and join the Chauffers, teamsters and helpers Union. (Teamsters) a button was purchased each month and was to be placed on your union card. This collector Delivery driver accumulated a large pile of these buttons.
How I am selling.
I have decided to list these in both groups and single buttons simply based on what i think is a fair price.
As I am not an expert in these things I have done my due diligence and accumulated whatever information I could source.
The buttons are all VINTAGE there are no reproductions as these were stored in an attic for the past 20 years since the owner/collector passed.
Condition
I went through the guidelines that others use to grade buttons.
I am not in any way experienced in grading
I decided to pull out any buttons that were damaged, discolored, pitted or missing pinbacks
I am going to look for surface defects to a point, but rather than describe each button
assume all are in approximately VERY GOOD condition.
These sat in potato chip tins for years
They were in a salt air environment so the reverse on some is tarnished
then again these are 30-50 years old so I expect this is normal stuff.
There may be minor scratches that you would expect from this type of storage.
I am taking clear scans at high resolution of both fronts and backs.
Shipping
The cheapest way to ship these is by padded mailer.
I have stickers that say " Fragile handle like eggs"
but we all know how postmen handle mail.
If you want boxes it will cost an additional 50 cents as I buy them and do not stock small boxes.
I will combine shipping using initial price plus per each additional lot
I will also ship by first class mail for the first 14 ounces then
Priority Mail over 14 ounces.
If you want Priority Mail under 14 ounces and are willing to pay for it simply ask me for an invoice
and I will send out exact priority mail cost.
I don't try to profit from shipping but with low dollar items and eBay's massive cut of the shipping
I try to at least get back my actual cost.
This is a one time event when these are gone they are gone.
There will be no wheeling and dealing the price I chose is the price.
I have done a few of these type projects over the years
I prefer doing business with those who appreciate what I do here.
I am scanning these by number and numbering each group.
If you have any questions please place the NUMBER of the group in your eBay messaging.
Thanks and have fun with these there are many interesting buttons.
